Claire Carr – Director & Choreographer

Claire CarrOn stage since the age of 3, Claire has been actively involved in dance and musical theatre all her life, both on stage as a performer and as part of creative production teams. Indeed, she spent her teenage years on stage as part of Chelmsford Young Gen, so she is delighted to be involved with them again after all these years!

After graduating from her professional training with a BA(Hons) Degree in Dance Studies in London, Claire was part of community theatre in Essex for many years before returning to pursue her training as her chosen career in 2016. She now works as a full-time Musical Theatre Director and Choreographer, working with various societies and community groups across Essex including CAODS (Chelmsford), BOS (Brentwood), LODS (Leigh On Sea), WAOS (Witham), WOW! (Witham) and Colchester (COS).

Recent directorial credits include: THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, SHREK THE MUSICAL, BETTY BLUE EYES, DISCO INFERNO, RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, KIPPS – HALF A SIXPENCE, RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN”S CINDERELLA, ANYTHING GOES (choreo) and MY FAIR LADY.

Claire also runs Adult Musical Theatre Dance Classes in the area and delivers MT Summer Schools as Lead Tutor and workshops for youth societies, working alongside West End performers. She has previously worked on some creative collaborations for the Chelmsford Fringe Festival and on the development of a new musical with a local writer.

Many of Claire’s productions have been nominated for or have won prestigious NODA Awards – both for overall production and for technical achievements. In addition, her productions have achieved numerous nominations for NETG Awards and many won.
