Sue Townsend’s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole

Monday, 25th April to Saturday, 30th April 2022

adrian-mole-flyerThe award-winning youngsters of Young Gen return with The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾, a joyous adaptation of Sue Townsend’s best selling book. Set in the 1980s, we follow the daily dramas and misadventures of Adrian’s adolescent life. With dysfunctional parents, ungrateful elders, a growing debt to school bully Barry Kent and an unruly pimple on his chin, life is hard for a misunderstood teenager. To top it off, when new girl Pandora joins the class and captures his heart, his best friend Nigel steals hers. Can Adrian win her love and escape from his chaotic family life?

With an infectious score and a script which stays true to the original novel, this heart-warming musical will bring Adrian’s story to life for a new generation of theatregoers.

Our thank you to the wonderful NHS and Key Workers

The lights at Young Gen may be temporarily ‘dark’ and it may feel that there is some darkness in the world right now but this hasn’t stopped some of our members connecting together remotely to celebrate and thank our wonderful NHS and Key workers for all they have done during the current pandemic and to unite together in song.

Well done to Livi Khattar for coordinating, collating and editing this project, to Charlie Toland for arranging the backing track and to Alex Cass for editing and mixing the sound. Young Gen are happy to share “The Rainbow Connection”

Welcome

CHELMSFORD YOUNG GENERATION

Chelmsford Young Generation is a music and drama society (charity registered) for young people aged 8 to 18, established in 1968. Boys and girls work with professional directors to perform two shows each year at the Civic Theatre and the Cramphorn Theatre in Chelmsford.

The fact that Young Gen work with professional directors allied with the hard work and dedication from the young people on stage and the myriad of volunteers who help out with the many aspects of putting on a great show, from the wardrobe department through to the set builders and backstage crew, allows the society to produce performances of the highest calibre.

Being a member of Young Gen gives young people an extremely wide range of life skills. Working as part of a dedicated team of people of all ages from diverse backgrounds, gives the “Young Genners” a unique opportunity to grow in confidence on an individual basis as well as being part of a group that strives, not only to put on tremendous shows but to have fun and develop new skills while doing so.
