Murray Lane

Young Gen meant the world to me when I was a teenager. I joined quite late; someone dropped out of Pickwick sometime into rehearsals and I was asked by Rachel Parsons, whom I did school plays with, to step in. I arrived at Gt Baddow School feeling pretty shy and nervous – Sean Murray was mid-scene but just jumped off the stage to welcome me!!! As soon as I joined I felt really at home, it was scary as I only had a few rehearsals before the performances started, but I loved it every night and every show after, I always looked forward to rehearsals – loved the 12 hour ones on Saturdays – just loved all the wonderful folk there and have stayed good friends with a whole bunch of them since. I only appeared in Pickwick, The Boyfriend, Huckleberry Finn and Godspell but what a time it was!!! The best thing about my youth!!

Since college I have worked in the West End as a dresser. I have worked on the original casts of Starlight Express, Les Miserables, Follies, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, Chicago, Mack & Mabel, Saturday Night Fever, Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You, Our House, The Producers, Lord of the Rings, Priscilla and Ghost, as well as revivals of Me & My Girl, Evita, Chicago, Anything Goes, The King & I and in 2017 the revival of 42nd Street.   From those days at Young Gen I have learned to work well as part of a team, that everyone is of value from every department in making a show work, and the absolute joy and fun you can have working in the theatre.

Long Live Young Gen!!!
