In 1985 Young Gen acquired their own spacious headquarters building and with it a new independence. No longer reliant on school halls for rehearsal accommodation, they were now free to embark on training and other projects which had hitherto been impossible. These include theatre workshops and a week long summer school. The headquarters is ideally situated in parkland with an adjacent car park. It has a large studio/rehearsal room with baby grand-piano, a second smaller rehearsal room with a second piano, changing rooms, tuck shop, fully equipped kitchen, workshop and props area, extensive wardrobe, and a recently added disabled toilet facility. The building is in constant use by either Young Generation or Chelmsford Operatic Society (CAODS) with additional long-term bookings by The Chelmsford Ballet Company, a local dancing school and occasional bookings by other groups sharing the same interests.
Young Gen rehearses at its headquarters on Thursday evenings and all day Saturday.
